We have been lucky enough to have the opportunity to visit a local sheltered housing scheme called Great Mead, which is based in Shoebury. The aim of this was for young people to communicate with another generation. The first week we visited we played a game of bowls against the residence, who have also said that they have really enjoyed this project and would like to do this again next year they said that it has changed their perception of younger people and that it has been good to have some company and being able to advice them and tell them their life stories and explaining to them the importance of school, education and having good morals.
We decided that we would visit their the last Monday of each month all of the young people were very keen on this and enjoyed listening to the residents stories. They also had an opportunity to play cards and other board games, which they really enjoyed. We are very pleased with how this project has gone and all involved have had positive feedback.
